Unlock Domain
-
I privately purchased a domain from a WordPress User that I would like to transfer to my Squarespace account. This user has transferred the domain to my WP username, but I am currently unable to unlock the domain, which would complete the final transfer. It gave me an error message that it was unable to unlock the domain at the time, preventing the transfer. Could you tell me why I’m unable to unlock the domain?

I think I realized what happened >> I think the person I purchased the domain from did not opt out of the 60-day transfer lock on the old domain when updating the contact information to mine. Is there any way to have that transfer lock lifted after it has been set into place?

Hi, sorry; ICANN requires that lock stay in place unless the user opted out at the time they transferred the domain to you:
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/transfer-policy-2016-06-01-en#II.C.2But, you can easily point the domain to your SquareSpace site for now, then transfer it after 60 days. Here’s how to change the name servers:
Or if they require it, you can edit the DNS records instead:
We’re happy to help as needed.
