Unmap my domain to deleted WordPress blog.
-
I just posted a topic in the forum, but this is an update. My two domains registered with namecheap (ellie-anderson.com and eleanor-anderson.com) keep linking to my deleted WordPress blog: eleanor-anderson.wordpress.com. Before deleting the blog, I had already manually unmapped the domain, cancelled my hosting subscription with WordPress, and fixed my DNS settings for both domains so that they should link to my website on squarespace, the host I am currently paying for. I have exhausted the efforts of my domain support staff at namecheap.com. This has to be an issue on WordPress’s side, so I do not think namecheap or squarespace can help me. Please let me know how this can be fixed. I can’t even log on or do anything on WordPress anymore, because I deleted the blog completely. Yet my domain is apparently still mapped to it, and I currently don’t have a website despite paying for both hosting and domain services.

Hi,
I’m not seeing any domain mapping for the domain http://ellie-anderson.com/ on WordPress.com. I visited the domain and it loads a non-WordPress.com site for me, indicating that it’s not pointing to WordPress.com right now.
I can see that the other domain, eleanor-anderson.com, was mapped to a WordPress.com site that has since been deleted, but it’s not mapped to that anymore. The domain is no longer mapped to the WordPress.com site and I checked the domain’s WHOIS info and apparently it’s not pointing to WordPress.com either.
You can see the domain’s WHOIS lookup here: http://www.whois.com/whois/eleanor-anderson.com
As you can see under the Nameservers, it’s not pointing to WordPress.com.
So what you need now is figure out the nameservers for your hosting provider (where your site is hosted). You can contact your hosting provider for their nameservers or IP addresses, and then ask your domain registrars to add those nameservers or IP addresses to your domain’s DNS so that it points to the correct site.
As far as WordPress.com is concerned, the domain is no longer pointed to WordPress.com and it isn’t mapped to any site at the moment.
Feel free to let me know if there’s anything else you need and I’ll be happy to help.

Hi –
Thanks for your response. I’ve been in contact with both my domain provider and web host, and they’ve mainly been telling me to check that the DNS records are entered correctly, which I’ve done, and they are. The nameservers are set to default. The CNAME and A Records Squarespace provided me matched up to those I entered on Namecheap. Today, my domain (eleanor-anderson.com) still leads to blank page. Specifically, it says: This site can’t be reached. DNS address could not be found. And a WordPress logo favicon still appears on the browser tab. Out of frustration, I figured I would just start over, so I disconnected the domain from Squarespace, cleared the DNS records on Namecheap. I reconnect the domain to Squarespace, who then provided me with new DNS settings. Most were the same as before, but one CNAME records was different. So I entered this new information into Namecheap, and now I’m simply waiting to see if everything works. So far it hasn’t.
I know it can take up to 72 hours for DNS records to update, but I’m a bit concerned since my other domain is up and working completely fine, while I’m having ongoing issues with this one. I’m also confused why the WordPress logo appears in my browser. If you could clarify that would be great. I just want to make sure nothing’s interfering with the process, and that it’s simply a matter of waiting. Since I reset everything today, I’m willing to give it another 72 hours, but if it’s not up and running by then, I’ll be really baffled because it seems like I’ve done everything I can.
Thank you!
