Unmapping Domain from old site

    Hiya,

I’m helping a friend with a WordPress blog setup since she isn’t exactly the best when it comes to the technical side of things. I had to recover her domain for her via an auction and I’m planning on mapping the domain to the new site I created for her since she doesn’t seem to be able to get onto her old site. The main issue is, is that the domain name she was using was mapped to that site. I’m just wondering if support are able to get this site unmapped so then tomorrow, which is when I plan to map to the new site, I’m able to do so. I’ve seen other people ask about this but it seems to be an issue that only staff can deal with on their end.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi there,

Is the domain mapped with wordpress.com or another domain provider? If it’s with another, you may need to deal with the old domain provider.

the following support page describes domain mapping on wordpress.com, and farther down the page there are instructions on dealing with other domain providers.

    go here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

The domain was bought on wordpress.com. It’s now under the provider that I use for my domains since when I got the domain back under auction, it’s now owned by me. I’ve done the changing of name servers and the like before, it’s just on the wordpress side of things that I’ve ran into a problem.

Any chance support staff could get onto me since I believe I won’t be able to resolve this myself since I’ve no access to the original site which hosted the domain. I don’t see how I’m being prevented from mapping the domain if the domain was purchased on wordpress.com( I’m pretty sure on this)

I’ve a deadline to get this site live, this is halting my progress!

Can a happiness engineer come over and get me some happiness? I’m over a week past the deadline I said this site would be ready and it has to be the WordPress side of things that’s causing issues since it seems she originally registered the domain on WordPress.

Do I need to try get access to my friends old blog? I don’t have access to it but I own the domain I’m trying to use and it’s starting to get really frustrating that I can’t just get this job finished!
