Unpublished media files accessible thru seach engines?
-
Hello. I hope you can help.
I was wondering how come files stored in my Media library (which are not currently attached to any posts or pages) can be found thru a Google search? I would like unpublished files (such as old drafts or previous versions of documents) not to be accessible in any way.
Thank you

Hi there,
Please note that media files that are uploaded to your Media > Library may be searchable as every uploaded media file has an attachment page. However, if you no longer want it there you can permanently delete it and we can invalidate the cache.
Cheers!

Hi Grace,
Thank you for your mail. I have to say I find that surprising. That means I cannot store private files in my media library (like drafts documents for future use) without people seeing them through search engies? Do I have to delete all non-used files, and then upload them later when I do want to publish them?
I was convinced that the space I was given with this package (13 Gb) was for my files and documents, which I could store privately and publish at will.
Is there no other option to “hide” these documents from search engines?
Regards,

If you want your files to be private it would be best to store them on your computer and not upload it to the web until you want it published. The best way to hide these documents would be to delete them from your Media > Library.
