Unpublishing a post?

    Why is it that when I publish a post, then change “Status” to “Draft,” it remains published except that it does not show up on the homepage? The only solutions I have found to this problem are making the post private or deleting the post and starting a new one. I get automatically generated links going to posts I thought I had removed. The “draft” thing seems pretty pointless to me at this rate. Is there any other way to unpublish a post?
