Unresponsive Page Error

Every time I click on the option to edit my site, I get the message that there’s an error and the page is unresponsive. I’ve been struggling with this for hours.

Same here. I did discover that deactivating Classic Editor gets me past the unresponsive issue on some pages. But those pages then will not update changes that I make. And other pages continue to be unresponsive.

Have had the same problem for two days. Completely unable to add blog posts or review existing posts or edit.

Hi there! Could you let us know what operating system and browser (and versions of each) you’re using? Also, have you tried a different browser than the one you normally use? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    Thanks!

I am using Windows 10, always use Google as my browser. Can’t see why that matters as the trouble is purely within WordPress and my website http://www.yarraboy.com or http://www.tonyberryauthor.com and everything else on my computer is working fine as did my website until I tried to edit a blog post yesterday; now nothing moves as soon as I try to preview a post..

I hadn’t tried a new browser (I also use Chrome on Windows 10.) I just opened up my page on Google Canary, and it seemed to work OK. I reactivated Classic Editor and it didn’t crash.

So I opened up my regular Chrome and checked the extensions. I deleted Remote Desktop and TeamViewer, which I no longer use anyway. Logged into WordPress and it also seems to work. That seems like an odd fix but I’ll take it!

    Thank you

Hi! I was using Google Chrome on Windows 10, but I believe my problem is fixed. I switched my browser over to Microsoft Edge.

    Thank you for the reply!

  • Thanks for that @donnaie26. If your preferred browser is Chrome, do you want to try clearing the cache to see if that helps?

Hi @supernovia ! It’s probably a personal device issue. I cleared the cache and cookies for Chrome and it’s still isn’t letting me editing any pages; however, I was able to make changes in another browser.

Nevertheless, I appreciate every response in this thread so far.

    Thanks,

I resolved this issue by deleting unused themes. This immediately returned everything to normal.

I started having this problem today. I’m using a standard theme (Twenty Twenty Three) – no plugs ins, and only 3 simple pages. I’m running OSX Ventura on a fairly new iMac, and I’ve always been able to edit my site easily using Chrome. I have the latest version of Chrome, and I’ve cleared the cache and all cookies connected to WordPress. But as of today I keep getting unresponsive page messages and can’t edit in Chrome. If I switch to Safari, it’s really slow to load but, once loaded, I can edit OK. Any ideas? thx.

  • @theexplorationhabit, since this is a different issue from the one in the original post (clearing cache and cookies worked for the OP) could you start a new topic here?

You can add a “modlook” tag if you’d like to get staff attention.

That way the people who have been working on this topic won’t get unwanted notifications as we look into what is causing your issue. Thanks!

As stated above, the “unresponsive page” error was quickly solved in my case by deleting all unwanted and unused themes.

theexplorationhabit you might try downloading Chrome Canary – which is a bare-bones Chrome with nothing that should cause issues. This worked for me until I deleted some unused extensions on my regular Chrome.

Thanks, but I’ve looked it up and both Google and other reviewers give Canary a health warning saying it can be unstable, so I think I’ll look elsewhere. Appreciate the suggestion though.
