Unsafe site warning
-
I have made a quick website for a community based photography group, of which there are currently many discussions about what should appear on the site. When I view the site I have no issues, but some members of the group are getting a ‘certificate error’ and that the site is unsafe. I have seen screen shots and they are all using the https:// and as far as I can tell, all using google chrome.
Ive checked the date in the certificate and it is within date, as I’ve only created this site about 3 weeks ago.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Many thanks -
Hi there,
Are you speaking of https://boltondocumentaryphotography.wordpress.com/?
There is nothing wrong with the SSL certificate on that site. If someone is seeing warnings for that site on a particular page, it would be what’s called a mixed content warning. That appears when a page contains unsecure content that cannot be encrypted by the SSL certificate, usually images that are being hotlinked from a http URL instead of a https URL.
The only way to prevent that warning is to embed those images using a https URL instead, but that would require that the site where the images are actually hosted also have a SSL certificate,

Hi there,
Yes that the right website address.
Many thanks for your swift reply and I think I know what’s causing it now…..
The logo of the site was designed by another member, and I’ve copied and pasted it straight from the email I received with it attached.
I’ve now removed it and asked members to try again with it removed.
I’ll let you know
Kind regards

I’m afraid I spoke too soon!
Still having the same issue.
Am I on the right track though? did the C&P from an email cause this issue?
The logo is the only part of the site that has been amended since I created it, and at first everything worked OK, it’s only since I changed the logo on the first page that this error has occurred.

Hi there,
I don’t see an SSL certificate issue when I visit your site. I tried three major browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Safari). On what page are you seeing that error and what browser are you using?

Hi there,
Sorry it’s taken so long to reply, but trying to organise a group of retired photographers is not easy!
I think I’ve sorted it.
Given the above info, where I have downloaded an image and changed it to a .png image the site has loaded correctly.
The last issue we had where people were typing in browsers https://www.boltondocumentaryphotography.wordpress.com
I have now discovered you don’t use www. aswell as https:// use one or the other. So I think we’re now on the right track.
Thanks
