"Untitled" theme: Can't tag pages to make them featured content.

The tag for featured content is “featured”. I have added a featured image to 3 pages (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Fall’). However, when editing the pages the ‘Categories & Tags’ section appears for a split second as the Edit form is rendering, then disappears. I see this in Firefox on a desktop. The section is missing in the WP client for Linux as well.

I have tried with the two options for the featured content tag checked and unchecked, these don’t seem to affect the display of the ‘Categories & Tags’ section.

Any ideas re what’s going on here?

  • Something on the left panel of the Edit Page screen in Mac app is disappearing very quickly for me as well.

I can’t see what it is, but by your description I presume it is Categories & Tags section. This makes sense because categories and tags are only for posts, not for pages. This could be why the Categories & Tags section is removed from the Edit Page screen.

This makes sense because categories and tags are only for posts, not for pages. This could be why the Categories & Tags section is removed from the Edit Page screen.

I hope that’s not the case. Why, oh why would one deprive pages of tags and consequently the honor of being selected as featured content, particularly if they are as capable of having their own featured image as any other type of featured content? #PageContentMatters!

  • Categories and tags help you sort your content and make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. It is handy to organize your posts by categories and tags especially as the number of posts increase over time.

Pages are static content and they largely remain the same. So it is not a problem for your visitors to find the page content.

I think this is why categories and tags are not needed for pages but handy for posts.

A tag is also used to designate Featured Content, so this theme effectively does not allow a Page to be featured and, consequently, the featured image associated with a Page cannot be included in the header image slider.

Even if the primary content of the site is blog posts or similar, it should not be assumed that only posts or “non-static” content needs to be featured.

  • Oh yeah, you are correct.

Some themes like Sketch allow pages to be tagged (besides posts and portfolios) so they can be displayed on the Featured Content slider.

Untitled theme allows only posts to be tagged.
