Untitled theme feature slider not working

  Hey there,
  I’ve been going around in circles for hours and would greatly appreciate some help. I’ve trawled the forum for tips and as far as I can tell I’ve done everything right, but can’t for the life of me get the feature slider to appear on my homepage.

  So far I’ve done the following:
  1) In Costumize>Featured Content I set the tag “FT” and saved it.
  2) In four of my old posts I made sure the featured images were 1440px wide (they are over 400px tall, but from what I can tell this shouldn’t be a problem?)
  3) I added the tag “FT” to these four posts. (in the “edit post” section – or is there another way of tagging posts that I don’t know about?)

  So the feature slider should be up and running about now, right? But nothing happens. I’m hoping someone can tell me that I just make a really stupid mistake somewhere in the process and it can all be fixed quickly :)

  I really hope this can be resolved, I love the look of the theme!!

  Ah, I see now that the feature slider works fine if I switch to “latest posts” view. But is there a way to make it work with a static home page?
  Also, how would I make the feature slider “taller”? I’d like the pictures to take up the entire screen if possible.
  (And please keep in mind that I am a technologically-challenged millenial – yes, we exist – so if there is CSS tinkering involved please explain it to me like I’m a 3-year-old toddler)
