Untitled Theme: Features Front Page Not Displaying Properly

  • Unknown's avatar

When I add featured posts, I get a variety of outcomes.

    1) Post doesn’t show up in feature scroll.
    2) Post shows up in feature scroll.
    3) Feature scroll omits the middle item. So, I get the large display, then a white hole, then the next post. (this seems to be the most common.

I’ve scrubbed the HTML for all extra stuff. It looked clean.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Topics posted to the support forums are principally fielded by volunteers who have no administrative access to the websites of the members requesting help or asking questions here. Also, non-Staff members can not see private websites.

    https://deerlands.wordpress.com/ is set on private.
    http://oignons.wordpress.com/ is public.
Are you referring to one of these websites?

    What’s a “feature scroll”?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, Deerlands I’m referring to. Let me get it straight.

The Feature images are shown adjacent to the post title, and link to seperate post pages.

    @scdeeran,

Feature scroll omits the middle item. So, I get the large display, then a white hole, then the next post.

I’m still not certain of the issues you are describing. What’s a “middle item”? I don’t see the “white hole” you refer to.

If you want posts to display on the front page as they do in the demo, with a thumbnail link to the post, the date, and the title link only then at Settings > Reading, choose (check) “Front page displays your latest posts.”

I meant to provide a link to the demo in that last paragraph.
Here is the WordPress overview of the Untitled theme: https://wordpress.com/themes/untitled/, and here is the demo: http://untitleddemo.wordpress.com/.

I have that item checked, and I’ve tagged those posts feature, but the thumbnail – title link – time stamp item isn’t there.

    I appreciate your help.

I think I have it figured out. I thought the bottom pieces were “featured” as well. They can have a feature image, and not be “featured”. Thus my confusion.

    Thanks!

Now you’ve got it. I see three of the four posts on the front page: thumb, date, and title links. Where’s the fourth, coming?

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, I see the fourth now. It is now just like the demo, except that you have no categories assigned to your latest post, and no post slider, yet. Do you want to display a post slider?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ scdeeran,
I think I see the problem, the reason why the post slider is not displaying. I noticed on another theme (Oxygen I think it was) that in order to get the slider to display you need to assign the same tag to at least two posts. On other themes, including Untitled, there is a minimum size for a feature image. It is with respect to these two factors working in tandem that the error lies.

    1. The most recent post,”An Honest Cover Letter,” has no tag. The next two have the tag “feature,” and the oldest has the tag “featured.” So you have two posts with the same tag, and I presume you made “feature” your featured content tag at Customize > Featured Content. But….

    2. One of the two posts with the tag “feature,” “Recipe for Turkey,” is too small. The minimum size of the featured image on this theme is 1024 pixels.

Therefore, you do not have two posts with the feature tag which have a featured image that is of sufficient size.

It looks like @musicdoc1 is helping you. Let me know if you have any other questions!

One of the two posts with the tag “feature,” “Recipe for Turkey,” is too small. The minimum size of the featured image on this theme is 1024 pixels.

The post can not, of course, be too small. I meant to say that the featured image is too small. If it is less than 1024 pixels it will not be eligible for the post slider.
