Untrusted Connection from Recent Posts

Currently, when I click on one of the Recent Posts links on my blog that are automatically generated, I get an https link and a Firefox “This connection is untrusted” warning. Why is this? Is there a solution?

    ….

    This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to murrayfoote.com, but we can’t confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site’s identity can’t be verified.
    What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn’t continue.

murrayfoote.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.wordpress.com , wordpress.com (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

If you understand what’s going on, you can tell Firefox to start trusting this site’s identification. Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is tampering with your connection.

Don’t add an exception unless you know there’s a good reason why this site doesn’t use trusted identification.

    Hello Murray,

Are you seeing these HTTPS links when you’re on the HTTP version of your site? This error happens when you try to visit a WordPress.com blog with a custom domain through HTTPS. Note the difference between the following URLs:

    http://murrayfoote.com/

    https://murrayfoote.com/

The first one does not use SSL, so it should not give you an error. The second one will give you an error because the certificate is for wordpress.com, not your domain. We currently do not support custom SSL certificates for WordPress.com blogs, but it’s OK if your users add an exception for your site since it’s expected behavior.

If you’d like to avoid this error in the future, only use the HTTP URL when you’re linking to your blog.
