Untrusted Connection on latests post. Help
-
I don’t usually google my blog posts but I did on my latest one and found that non of my serves (Firefox, Safari or Chrome) trusted my latest blog post on Risotto..!
Error message:
cameraandclementine.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.wordpress.com, wordpress.com (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)I’m worried that all my post will be like this from now on. Can someone explain what is the problem? If someone sees that error message they are obviously not going to go to my site, and I’ll loose traffic.
Google is fine with searching for my site Camera and Clementine. The error came when I googled “Camera and Clementine Risotto”. It is just that page that is affected.
I realise it is something to do with httmls or something..but I’m not a super wiz at this.. So help would be nice, thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. The problem here is that WordPress.com cannot issue unique security certificates for every site with a custom domain, with the result that your site’s security certificate doesn’t match your domain name, resulting in your browser giving a warning.
It’s not really a security issue, and you can safely ignore that warning (and in the case of your browser you can set an exception so your browser no longer gives that warning), but it is an annoyance and as you point out it could potentially cost you traffic. But I’m afraid there’s nothing that can be done about it. You can see here for more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Looking at that support doc I see it doesn’t say anything about search engines giving a warning about this, so I’m tagging this for staff to follow up. Please be patient while waiting for their response.

Thanks very much for your info on the issue. I understand (kind of!) why it is happening now. But it’s upsetting to think traffic might get turned away at the door so to speak, and that google may not like my site, resulting in terrible ranking. Everyone want to be at the top of google, but I’m struggling to see how that would ever happen without the site being secure?

One more question! Why is it only just happened on my latest post, has there been some changes in wordpress? Thanks agaian :)

I’ll leave those questions for staff to answer, as they’ll know more about this than me.

Hi @annapettigrew, it sounds like the links you’re finding connect to https. Are you posting your link as https:// instead of http:// anywhere?
Can you also tell me exactly how you’re finding the link? I tried searching for some terms on your site and was able to find this Butternut / Risotto recipe, but I did not see the error. If you’ll show me how to find the same error I’ll be better able to help. Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for your reply.
The problem is if you search via google (not tried other search’s) ie typing “Camera and Clementine risotto recipe” into google, throws up the error message. You won’t get an error once you are on my site navigating to other pages. Just from coming outside going in.
Its also only affecting the risoto recipe, which is my latest post. When searching in google, the link comes up as a https:// but I dont know why, as ive not done anything different, I just press publish..I’m not particularly technical..and my theme is pretty limited in terms of doing anything ‘by hand’…
(im just going to catch a plane, if I dont repond thats why!)
Many thanks! -
I just did that Google search for “Camera and Clementine risotto recipe” and clicked through and did not get a security certificate warning.
-
ah..I just did another search too, and now its all changed.. the actual risotto post doesn’t show up on google now. It just goes to http://cameraandclementine.com/blog/
heck I dont know…glad the warning is gone, but weird the recipe doesn’t get shown on google now.
Thanks!

Alright, I’m guessing it was linked via https somewhere. Google seems to have fixed this itself though. If you see this again let us know!
