  Hi,
  Why the system adds spurious and unwanted <span… tags in the WYSIWYG editor?
  What can I do to avoid it?
  Is this a bug?

  Don’t copy/paste. Problem solved.

  WordPress.com does not add span tags. Microsoft Word and other non-web-compatible programs do. The solution is to use web compatible programs like Blogdesk or Windows Live Writer, or to write in the Write Post box instead of pasting.
