Unwanted AD? Help!

  • Unknown's avatar

Aloha! Posted “what I did on my summer vacation” last week and a few days later an ADVERTISEMENT appeared on that page!? It has no connection to my site or content, it’s a wordpress blog, and I don’t know how it got there or how to remove it. Any ideas? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

From the support document on advertising:

Note: To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements. We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade.

Thank you so much! That makes sense to me . . . though I wonder, will this “upgrade” cost me anything? Hmm . . .

  • Unknown's avatar

All upgrades require payment and the No-Ads one will currently cost you $30.00 a year.

I get it. It’s commerce. If some users (like me) aren’t paying, the revenue stream has to come from somewhere. Nonetheless, I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED BY WP TURNING ME INTO A CORPORATE SHILL AGAINST MY WILL. Screw you wordpress! I run a poetry blog. You’re telling me I have to put up with ADVERTISEMENTS smack in the middle of each poem?!! Let me repeat: SCREW YOU WORDPRESS!!!!!!!!! Crease and desist this patently offensive practice immediately, or I will discontinue my blog and switch to Blogspot, or some other blogging service that will not DESTROY my literary site by making it a tool for big rich corporations. Simply, THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY CONTENT. I am so livid, I am spitting blood. You can bet the farm I WILL LET EVERYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS RUDE INSULT TO MY INTEGRITY.

    @lastcre8iveiconoclast
The ToS clearly states that advertising is run on our blogs. In fact it has been since 2006. The features page states this as well. The support documentation under advertising is clear. So it appears that you did not read these documents. Please feel free to move to blogspot ASAP if that will make you happy. We Volunteers do not provide emotional support on this forum> We provide answers to technical support questions only. We also assume that bloggers are capable of reading and anyone who clicks the “I have read the Terms of Service” button actually read them.

Advertisements. Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account. Tos section 9

Advertising: To support the service we may occasionally show ads on your blog, however we do this very rarely. You can remove ads from your blog for a low yearly fee. We also have an option for high traffic blogs to show their own ads.

WOW! I will start with a sincere apology. I misspoke when I said I had an ADVERTISEMENT suddenly appear on my site. It was actually a pretty large banner link to another WordPress site that as I DID say accurately had no connection (I could see) to my blogs and their content. I was only confused and irritated NOT offended and incensed. My question was answered quickly and thoughtfully (as always) by SacredPath and then followed up by TimeThief. I truly am sorry this thread took such an UGLY turn.

Even though I slipped up in my question, the inappropriately disrespectful response by lastcre8iveiconoclast really disappoints me. Again, I apologize for stirring up this anger by one blogger and wasting the time of WordPress’s fantastic volunteers. PS I was able to take care of the “problem” in minutes and at no cost, by the way. THANK YOU, WordPress!

My above posting turns out to be someone’s idea of a joke. I was bitching to my friend that I hated seeing ads suddenly appear- particularly in the place they were appearing. He hijacked my computer while I was out of the room and sent this in my name. I am so sorry for any upset or offense this apparently caused. Some friend. I can’t believe he thought this this was acceptable- or even funny! He’ll be hearing from me!

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Still, embarrassing. Anyone who knows me knows I would never use huge strings of exclamation marks! I’m mortified.

Thanks for clearing this unpleasantness up. I have removed the flagging for Staff attention. We can simply move on now.

I put that flag up, because I thought they might want to remove that post.
