unwanted by-line on post headline
-
How can I get the blog to stop automatically adding my by-line to the headline on each post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Some themes display author bylines and some do not. You can switch to a theme that does display a byline. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/

Are you sure you don’t mean “tagline”? Site Titles (Blog Names) and/or optional Taglines can be changed at any time here > Settings > General.

I started a new blog recently, have about 10 posts on it now. They look pretty good. But now, all of sudden, the headline on each post I publish automatically includes my by-line! I don’t want my by-line “by Rawclyde” on each post. I never checked a box for this. I’ve never included a by-line on a post headline. But now whenever I make a post my by-line is automatically included on the headline of that post. Pretty weird… So I won’t publish any more posts until that automatic by-line disappears. How can I get rid of this unwanted obtrusive goofy-looking by-line on each new post published?

Please read what I already posted above. If you do not wish to have a byline displayed switch to another theme for a free of charge solution.
For a paid solution you will need to purchase an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and do the required CSS editing.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/Important note: CSS editing is theme dependent. In some themes, categories and/or tags and the other meta data elements such as author, date, and perhaps even the “leave a comment” link are in the same selector, which means if you hide one, then you hide them all.

The last thing I want to do right now is switch to a theme that displays a by-line. I can include a by-line on my own when I want one. I don’t want the blog doing it on its own with each post title I publish… And, no, I don’t mean tagline. I’m not talking about the blog settings. I’m talking about creating and editing individual posts and a byline popping up in the post title box ~ a byline that I certainly did not put there. I’ll check the settings/general but I think I already did…

I provided a link to an Author and profile displayed or not list. I suggest you use it to select another theme that does no display the author byline http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/

There is no setting on that page that you can change that is relevant to this at all.
The theme is supplying the author name.
Your two choices both (1) free of charge and (2) paid have been posted above. -
Thank you for your attention. These by-lines weren’t showing up in the title box of each new post I edited and published until about the 11th post. These bylines have nothing to do with the blog’s theme ~ I don’t think. It’s a post related problem, not a blog related problem. At least that’s how it appears. However, I’ll try to not lose this conversation and study it further and see if I can’t fix the problem. I hate to switch themes. I finally found one I liked and then it started acting up. Oh well… Thanks again…

Will you please post a screenshot to exactly what you are referring to?
Also confirm what the URL of the blog in question starting with http:// is. -

I don’t see any byline on your posts. This thread is tagged for Staff assistance as I don’t know what you are referring to.

When I go to “edit post”, the by-line shows up in the title box. Then, I presume if I publish the post, the by-line will show up with the post title when its published on the blog. I won’t go that far, though, because I don’t want the by-line published with the post title on the blog. I’d give you a screenshot but I don’t know how to do that. It will take a few moments, perhaps long moments, for me to learn this procedure…

How to take a screenshot http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
After you take it please upload it to your Media Library where Staff can examine it. -
Okay. It’s going to be a moment. Maybe you’d like to go have a long leisurely lunch while I do this… Thank you.
