unwanted changes in caps, bold, and italic
-
I often use bold and italic tags, <b> and <i>. WordPress wrongfully changes them to and which are far from being the same, so that my intended italics becomes BOLD. Also, WP converts any bolded section to CAPS, which can be a totally wrong choice. Except for the caps, I can re-edit published posts to <b> and <i>, but I should not need to.
WP does a lot of good things. Why must it insist on doing bad things?

Further more, this post has converted my intended < b > and < i > to just bolded word “and”. Is there a means to present code without change?
-
sorry — I meant < strong > and < em > were intended code.
I find no way to edit my own posts. -
</i>What works best, is
<strong></strong>for bold and ` for italics. The i and b tags are not yet deprecated, but I expect they will be soon. -
Try again: WP should not convert < b > and < i > to < strong > and < em > without permission.
-
There is no edit function here, and the WP visual editor will use em and strong tags, and should keep them just fine in code view as well. At least it always has for me.
-
If you want to maintain the semantics of your post, you might want to try using the ‘strong’ and ’em’ tags instead of b and i respectively. And that is what WP is trying to do, I guess.

Up until now, the editor had been doing the exact opposite for me on a blog here: changing “em” and “strong” tags to “i” and “b.” Tonight, I was overjoyed to see that the upgrade has finally solved that problem.
