unwanted drop down coupon ads appearing
-
Yesterday a banner appeared above my blog with a drop down coupon ad on it and some of the words are now highlighted with links to other sites eg competitions. How do I get rid of this?
Thanks.

WordPress.com has placed advertising on our blogs since 2006. All WordPress.com placed ads are easy to identify as this link accompanies them http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/Any other ads you see are not placed on the blog by WordPress.com. They are coming from a browser extension or toolbar. These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads: http://www.littletechiethings.com/2012/06/how-to-remove-ads-not-by-this-site.html http://blog.wikimedia.org/2012/05/14/ads-on-wikipedia-your-computer-infected-malware/ http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/09/14/bloggers-beware-of-adware/

Thank you both so much: this is why I’m so happy with WP. Your responses were so helpful. It took some time, but I fixed the problem after following the links you gave me. I’ll know what to do next time.

You’re welcome. Yes it does take some time. In some cases the old disable browser add-ons and then one by one add them again to find the culprit does not work in all cases. That’s why I published a post with specifc instructions for getting rid of the worst of the embedded offenders Text Enhance and Voice 5 that the simple solution does not work on. You can try to delete the program as they do offer a way to stop the Ads by using a check box, but the next time you clear your cookies, they send a new cookie and the text-enhance is back on your computer.

It seems to have been successful this time, but I will remember to check your posts if it happens again.
