Unwanted email from wordpress.com

For some time, I have been receiving email on my primary address from wordpress.com, requesting confirmations for things such as following other users. Someone has created an account using my address, apparently without even having to confirm the address is really theirs.
Since you have no other way to contact your support people, I’ve had to resort to creating this account, which I don’t actually want or need, because I am sick of being spammed by emails for an account with a forged address. Please contact me immediately to sort this out.

That’s very strange. I recommend unsubscribing from email alerts visiting https://wordpress.com/me/notifications page.
Check the box that says Block Emails and click save.
