unwanted follower
-
Can you stop someone from following your blog? Someone added as a follower to my blog yesterday and, in visiting their page, I find them decidedly creepy. I would appreciate not allowing them to follow me. If they want to randomly come back and view my posts, that’s okay, but I don’t want them following me. We have absolutely nothing in common.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sadly there is no way to block a follower, as you said, the person could just come to the site as they pleased anyway, so them following you doesn’t really make too much difference. After all, all they are doing is viewing your blog, and reading what you publish (if they are doing that at all). Following just means they’ll see your posts in the reader, or if they choose, to get emails about posts, so, it can’t harm you in anyway. If their site isn’t appropriate then report them using the report content button you’ll find if you hover of their site’s name in the admin bar (for a wordpress.COM site that is).

That’s unfortunate. I’d like to be able to monitor followers just as I monitor comments. My blog is about my sewing/quilting/crafts, my dog, and my life. Someone following me whose blog only serves to attempt to offend people (mostly by being snarky towards women) is not something I want. If I could stop them being notified every time I post, it would be a nice thing. Perhaps for now, I just won’t post.

We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Everyone on the internet can view and follow any public blog. That is in fact what the public designation means.
You can change your blog visibility to “private” http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ Please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/
Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog. You don’t have to approve and post any comment on your blog. Delete troll posts and mark only spam as spam.

I know this already, time thief. I’m just saying I would prefer to be able to block someone from being notified every time I post. If I change my blog to private, I will be eliminating most of the audience for whom it is intended. I don’t want to do that. I’m just saying, if it’s an easy feature to block a comment, why isn’t it an easy feature to eliminate a follower?

Anyone on the internet can subscribe to the RSS Feed on any public blog and that cannot be prevented.
