unwanted follower

I’m again seeking assistance on a repeat follow by a blogger whose content I most definitely do not wish seen advertised through my site, that of weaponry which safetyhub.net primarily features. The Woodworking Projects is a small chapter of the site.
Since I last reported safetyhub.net, the ‘follow’ no longer automatically opens to the main site. However, screen grab attached, it shows @projectswoodwork6 which doesn’t open to anything but the description has the safetyhub.net address, and if anyone looked it up would, at a very cursory scroll of the site arrive at the weaponry aspect. I maintain that is their main focus and I will not, I repeat not, allow my site and posts be used to advertise that type of content. I’ve repeatedly taken them off and repeatedly they’ve re-followed. I attach a screen grab of an email I sent them in response to a very disturbing behaviour! They repeatedly ‘like’ only the Pre-Paint post which features some minor woodwork. Other woodworking sites also visited the post, ‘liked’ it and that was that. This Woodworking Projects a la Safetyhub is aggressive in their insistence on a follow. The email to them explains, screengrab attached. I have not received an answer to the email but did receive another follow from them immediately after! I find their behaviour sinister and am very disturbed. I mainly post poetry and artworks – one little post about woodwork and this over the top behaviour from them! It’s crazy. Please help. From March 22 Safetyhub moved from 48 followers to over a 1000 end April. March 12 the Safetyhub legend still displayed. Even if it no longer does so, anyone having to visit the site via the address will arrive at the content I protest against. I’ve had other spammers I removed and they are fine with it. Why this insistence for months on end from Safetyhub? I’m terrified of posting anything else to do with woodwork, helping safetyhub to advertise their disturbing content.
I can’t seem to post screengrabs.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As already said by Staff at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unwanted-follower-8/#post-3796407, your site is set to public meaning ‘everybody’ can see it.

I’m sorry, this is not good enough. Everyone else I removed as followers due to it being mere spamming has accepted their removal. This site however has insisted on following to the degree it is harassment.

The only solution to avoid those ‘problems’ is by setting your site to private,

In 12 years of blogging I must make changes to my blog because one follower has decided her harassment is acceptable, in spite of my complaint over the content of her site, because of one tiny post to do with woodwork published on 10 April 2021? I don’t think so. This has been going on for a year now! I’d like to hear from a staff member please.

  • Hi there,

As @staartmees has indicated above, the only way to prevent someone from following your site is to set your site to private, so only people you invite can view it.

But if your site is public, anyone can view it, link to it, or follow it, and they don’t even require a WordPress.com account to do so – a WordPress.com account is required to use the WordPress.com Like feature and to follow a site in the Reader, but someone could also follow your site using the RSS feed directly without having an account with us.

So there really is no way to prevent this person from following your site.

If you believe the account is engaging in targeted harassment, spamming or linking to content that violates our terms, you can report their Gravatar profile for abuse. To do that, log in at Gravatar.com using your WordPress.com account, then visit their profile at https://en.gravatar.com/projectswoodwork6 and click the Report Abuse link at the bottom of the info-box on the left. Then our terms of service team will review the account.

But that’s not something we’re able to help with here in the public forums.

If it is really too much to expect WP to address the follower and try and dissuade her from further harassment then I’ll have to report her. Thank you for not helping.

I don’t think you fully understand the consequences of putting up a website. There is one golden rule: “Everything you put on the internet will one day be used or misused and you won’t be able to do a thing about it”.
You’ll never have full control over the people visiting your site or what people do with the content on your site. There is no hosting provider on the whole world who will contact someone because you say he’s an unwanted follower of your site.
As Staff repeatedly adviced, the only solution is setting your site to private. By doing so you’ll be able to carefully select the people able to visit your site and content.

WordPress.com does not take action in situations like this because you, the site owner, have complete control over your website. However, you also can report the account for harassment using the links provided by @kokkieh above. Submissions there will be reviewed by our Trust and Safety team and they will determine if there is any course of action.

Again, we cannot help you with this via the public support forums, so we will be closing this thread to further replies. Please do not start a new thread about this issue in the future.

    Best regards.
