Unwanted Gutenberg
-
Hi,
I’m bit stressed out regarding the ‘unwanted’ WordPress update.
As of yesterday my website has been updated with the Gutenberg layout. I’m almost 90 years old and do not understand a thing about the new update…
Is there a way to undo this update or to get back the old layout style?
I’ve read some articles about the classic editor plugin, but downloading plugins requires me to update my WordPress account from premium to business. But paying €207 extra for this sounds a bit unreal ?
Please help!! I cannot write my blogs at the moment…
Thank you in advance.
Basia

I’m in agreement about how ridiculous it is for them to expect everyone to just put up with their still alpha level replacement or pay/more to be able to load a plugin to give us what worked perfectly fine in the past for free/bundled with their paid plan.
They’ve had years to fix this “latest and greatest” editor, and it’s still less functional and missing many things that are available in classic. Some of the new substitutions meant to replace what has been lost are not the same thing, and often much less desirable in the replacement form.
If it ain’t broke…don’t replace it with something that is.

Hi there,
You can switch back to the classic editor by clicking on the three dots (next to the cog icon) at the top of the post or page editor and selecting “Switch to Classic Editor”.
Here is a screencast of the steps to follow: http://cld.wthms.co/tOOMQu
We are eventually retiring the WordPress.com classic editor, but you can still use the features of the classic editor through the classic editor block:

Hope this helps.

Hi Darnell,
Thanks for your reply and video.
I can just about find my way around the WordPress menu. I learned how to write and post for my followers at the old age I am!!
The new ‘white’ block system is too difficult for me and I would just like to go back to where I was.
I’m trying to adapt here but this is not making it easy.
So there is no way whatsoever getting back to the total classic blocks?
Best,

The classic block looks just like the classic editor, but it’s in block form. Custom TinyMCE buttons are found in this block, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
