Unwanted hyphenation in Maisha theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi – I want to remove all automatic hyphenation in my site. I’ve modified the CSS with great assistance from WordPress help but there’s still some there. I’m very much an amateur here with no html experience!!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi bluesforyourpocket

    I am not seeing any automatic hyphenation on the site.

    Can you tell me what browser you are using and perhaps send me a link to a specific example.

    Hi g471n

    The problem I have is that words are hyphenated when changing to different screens, or iPad, iPhone etc, rather than forcing a whole word on to the next line. There’s some code in the CSS [which I don’t understand helpfully put there by the WordPress Support] but that hasn’t solved the whole problem – only on the front page, for example. It still occurs on other pages where I’m starting to input text – e.g. the things to do/art or things to do/eating etc – I’m looking at the second line of this where “visitors” is split. It’s not a desperate problem, but it would be nice if it could be solved. I’m just starting with WordPress customisation and very much a novice! Thanks

    PS I’m using a Mac and browsing through Safari but, as above, it occurs on the other versions. I’ve not tried it through a windows browser.

    Thanks for the info. Try adding this line of custom CSS and let me know if it fixes the problem.

    .entry-content, .entry-summary, .page-content, .comment-content {
        word-wrap: normal !important;
    }

    To add custom CSS

    Select Appearance > Customize > CSS from your Admin Dashboard and enter the custom CSS there.

    You need to be on the WordPress.com Premium Plan for custom CSS to save.

    Small update to the code above to make sure we cover all browsers.

    .entry-content, .entry-summary, .page-content, .comment-content {
        word-wrap: normal !important;
        -webkit-hyphens:none !important;
        -moz-hyphens:none !important;
        hyphens:none !important;
    }

    Excellent – that seems to have worked everywhere. Very many thanks.

    You are welcome. Let me know if you find any spots we might have missed.

    Thanks – it’s really great having this support for someone who’s just splurging in the dark with WordPress!

    This worked for me as well – thanks WordPress!
