Unwanted pop up ads

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, recently been adding ads to my site when I came across an issue on mobile. This ad pops up on mobile when only using 4g not wifi.

Made it impossible to use the site as it keeps popping up.. bit worried decided to get rid of all the pop under ads and now only have static ads. This hasn’t worked and I’ve gone through the code and can not see anything apart from the static ads.

Also noticed this little pop up on desktop that only shows for a split second then disappears when loading the page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s obvious your site and your phone have been hacked or infected! Time to clean up your phone and site. You must wait untill a Staff member is available.

How can I clean up my site? I’ve looked through the code and can’t find anything suspicious.

Phone and computer are virus free its only when trying to access my site.

Did notice one weird cookie on my site that I’ve deleted but hasn’t made a difference :(

That McAfee thing is just a scam ad. You can use the Adblock browser app to keep those from popping up. Don’t tap the button otherwise, it’ll load malware onto your phone.

I’d check with the service you are getting your ads from to see if they can remove the malicious ones. They could be unaware of those ads being included in their package.

If these are WordAds advertisements you can report them:

To report ads with malware on your WordPress.com site, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Ad: Locate the ad that you suspect contains malware on your site.
    2. Click “Report this Ad”: Near the bottom of the ad, you should see an option that says “Report this Ad.” Click on this link to report the ad directly.
    3. Take a Screenshot: Optionally, you can take a screenshot of the ad. You can find instructions on how to take a screenshot here.
    4. Copy the Ad’s URL: Right-click on the ad to copy the linked URL. Do not click on the ad directly, as it may redirect you to a different URL.
    5. Contact Support: Once you have this information, please reach out to WordPress.com support. They will investigate the issue further.
  • Hello @spiritualhavenuk

Thank you for your report. You shouldn’t see ads like this from WordAds (if this is being loaded through WordAds) so I agree with @parkdanil’s suggestion (thank you) to report the ad if you see it again so our team can review the report and follow-up with our ad partners, if necessary.

Please also capture a screenshot and share it with us directly so we can investigate further. You can contact us through live chat or email support with your site’s plan. Here is more information about this: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/#how-to-contact-us

Enjoy the rest of your day!
