unwanted spam

  • Unknown's avatar

I am getting all kinds of spam totally unrelated to my site. why? It has just happened in the past month. It is very annoying. I have put words on my “blacklist”, I have select “”has to be approved by administrator.”

    What more can I do.

By the way, I tried addressing this topic in the forum, but was not able to get an answer.

  • Hi there, could you please show me an example of the kind of spam you mean? Are they spam comments? I don’t see any comments in either your Spam or Trash areas right now.

I don’t see any other forum posts from you on this question, could you send me a link? Thanks.

You don’t see any because I just cleared them out before you checked. I will send you one as soon as they come in. You will note that they are not at all interested in knitting. :)

As to the forum, I tried to follow the question in this regard by someone else, but it kept telling my that the inquiry had to be approved by the administrator first.

  • Sure – when more come in, please leave them in your Spam folder so I can take a look directly, thanks.

Below are a sampling of the posts I am getting.

180.245.43.34 Good post here. One thing I would really like to say is that often most professional domains consider the Bachelor’s Degree just as the entry level requirement for an online certification. While Associate Qualifications are a great way to get started, completing your current Bachelors uncovers many entrances to various occupations, there are numerous online Bachelor Course Programs available coming from institutions like The University of Phoenix, Intercontinental University Online and Kaplan. Another concern is that many brick and mortar institutions provide Online versions of their degree programs but typically for a significantly higher fee than the institutions that specialize in online education programs.

Another thing I would like to say is that often getting hold of duplicates of your credit report in order to scrutinize accuracy of each detail may be the first measures you have to execute in fixing credit. You are looking to clear your credit reports from dangerous details faults that wreck your credit score.

  • Hi there, thanks for the examples. It would be helpful if you could leave the spam posts in your administration area instead of deleting them so I can take a look and see if it looks like the Akismet spam filter is working correctly.

Please let me know if you get any more spam and don’t trash them so I can take a look. Thanks!

  • Hi there – I’m not seeing any spam comments here:

Couldy you confirm whether I’m looking at the right site, thanks. :-)

  • Thanks for clarifying which site has the spam.

Are these comments being classified as spam automatically? If so, then it looks like things are working as they should, since the spam is never seen by readers and is segregated automatically.

If they aren’t, then by marking them as spam manually as you are, over time the spam filter will learn how to better recognize spam in the future. You could also try the option to “Hold a comment in the queue if it contains X links” – since many spam posts include links.

Let me know if this helps, or if you had any further questions.

I have done all the above. I am just tried of having to deal with this everyday, as some days I have as many as 50 +

    Thanks for your help.

  • I understand how annoying it is to deal with spam.

If the spam comments are automatically going into the spam area, a quick scan of it once in a while just to make sure there are no false-positives – genuine comments mistakenly being classified as spam – should be all that’s needed.

If it’s taking more time than that, maybe you could let me know in a bit more detail the process you’re using so I can help you trim it down.
