Unwanted subscriptions to blogs I’ve never heard of

Today I tried to sign up for a friend’s blog. It is the first time I’ve been active on this site, though I have had an account for over a decade. When tried to add her blog, I was directed to ‘approve’ a bunch of blogs that I’d allegedly ‘signed up’ for. When I finally got in, I discovered that someone had signed me up for a bunch of strange, likely commercial (as in designed to sell stuff) blogs, including one for CBD users. I didn’t look at it, but suspect it might be a ploy to sell product. I had to decline these subscriptions before I could subscribe to my friend’s blog. How can I prevent this in the future? How is someone else able to sign me up for a bunch of things I have no interest in and then must decline before I can proceed?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

What you’re seeing is from a problem we had with certain, inactive WordPress.com user accounts in February 2018 getting spammed with invitations.

The problem is no longer an issue, but returning users may see those spammy invitations still under their account.

As long as you declined them, you shouldn’t see them in the future. If so, feel free to reach out to let us know and we can look into this for you.

    I hope that clarifies things!
