Upcoming events widget

Upcoming events widget is not updating properly. Even after waiting for over 24 hours. Linked to a Google Calendar and has been working pretty well. But recently we deleted several events from our calendar, but they still show up in the widget. We have also had issues with events that are reoccurring only displaying the first instance.
I have recreated the widget, cleared cache and nothing is fixing it. Any thoughts?

Hi there,
Currently, your second Upcoming Events widget (with the Google calendar URL) looks like it’s working correctly on my side. When I download the calendar feed, I only see the two events that are included in the widget. Is that the calendar you’re referring to?

No sir, those were other tests I was working on. It is the main feed at the top of the page. I have it limited to three items at the moment because anything after that is where it is picking up the error.

I was able to download the calendar feed you were using as of my latest reply last night. When I import that calendar and look at the events, the first three items on the Upcoming Events widget match the calendar events (Colorguard, Band Room Open, Colorguard). The discrepancy starts with Coke/Water Order Pick-up, which reads “Percussion” on the calendar that I’ve uploaded. Is that an example of an item that you have changed that isn’t properly reflected in the widget?

Not really… I had to get creative to work around the errors until we got past the events that were still showing up because we did not want people showing up for things that were no longer valid. So I had to create a second calendar and add the events just for this week and then use that new ical feed to fix it…. I will relink our main calendar, which is already filled out for the year, over the weekend. What had happened was there was events that had been entered for today and tomorrow that were completely deleted and new events put in their place. But the old events would still show up, even though they were no where on the Google calendar. I refreshed the feed link, remade the widget, added other events to test to make sure it was updating… but the old/deleted events remained. The other issues we were noticing is that when our staff would ad an item on the calendar and set it up as a repeating event, only the first instance of it would show in the events widget. To fix that i was having to manually duplicate the events for each occurrence. I know this is going to be had to assess since I have a band aid over it at the moment to avoid any confusion for our users. On a side note, the Calendar page we have that accesses the same Google calendar, is updating/reflecting accurately, it just appears to be related to the Upcoming Events widget. As I mentioned earlier, I tried other browsers, cleared the cache etc., but to no avail. I think I have a successful workaround for now, but would love to know if this is something we are doing wrong or if there is a glitch that can be address, because someone like us who has a huge calendar of events starting in a few weeks, this could become rather cumbersome.

Thanks for the detailed report. I’m going to try to recreate the issue on my side with an example calendar. I’ll report back with what I find out. I just wanted to let you know I’m not ignoring this thread!

Hey I wanted to let you know I relink the true/full calendar today… and it is showing an error that I can leave for you to look at, because int he end, it will not impact our audience… but if you look at the Upcoming events list now it will show ” Percussion July 3, 2014 at 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm “, which is not listed on our Google calendar anymore…. we deleted it a while back… but as you can see it is still showing.
I hope this this helps since it is a real life example now.
