Upcoming Events Widget Displaying Events not on my Calendar!
-
My apologies to everyone for not keeping up with this thread.
It appears as though all of my events are displaying correctly right now. The problems seem to disappear as unpredictably as they appear! At it’s worst the widget was doing things as @inspirationofgaia described. Changing dates, times and event details.
I created all of the events when logged into my google account, on google calendar and have never imported events from other sources.
As a precaution I have stopped doing recurring events, I just type them all in individually to avoid the aggravation and unpredictability of the widget.

We’ve applied a few updates which should fix most of the problems that were reported earier :) but a few exceptions keep popping up and I’m filing those as I find them.
Sorry again for the trouble!

Hey guys
I’ve been following the threads on iCal playing havoc and it got a bit complex for my tech abilities! Sounds like some issues are fixed, mostly on an individual basis, and some are still being explored?
I’m getting a mix of issues: recurring events still show up even when I delete one of the dates and some dates are just wrong.
The website I need help with is
http://findingyoga.com.au/2013/12/09/body-and-self-awareness-through-yoga-for-sufferers-of-chronic-fatigue-and-fibromyalgia-whoa-long-title/Anything you see could be done or should I disable the widget for a bit?
Many thanks :)

I think all the specific issues I worked on with users have been fixed by now, but it appears that ics files can have some pretty crazy stuff in them when it comes to recurring events, so there could be more things to review and if you’re having trouble I can help document all the issues.

Events are cached for about an hour and it’s also possible your calendar provider itself caches the events (which can make getting the update on the WordPress.com side slower in some cases). Do the deleted events go away after an hour or so?
some dates are just wrong
I checked the sidebar at http://findingyoga.com.au/2013/12/09/body-and-self-awareness-through-yoga-for-sufferers-of-chronic-fatigue-and-fibromyalgia-whoa-long-title/ and I see these events right now.
- Vinyasa at Yoga Vine, December 23, 2013 at 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
- Special Christmas Guided Relaxation and Yoga Nidra, December 24, 2013 at 9:30 am – 10:45 am
Sun Salute Yoga - Christmas break, December 25, 2013 at 12:00 am – January 3, 2014 at 12:00 am, It’s the holiday season!
Could you tell me exactly which dates/times are wrong? They look correct to me compared to the data in your calendar feed https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/43djdemn16t5o5tn701j900ii4%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

Thank you.
The events to date haven’t been going away within the hour but there also aren’t any there at the moment that are completely out of whack. Most are deleted recurring events that still show up so would love some tips on sorting that out.
The Dec 23 Vinyasa class is a recurring event that is not on that week. I removed it from my calendar for that week (and I actually couldn’t see it in the calendar feed you sent but I did just have a quick look).
I just increased the number of events to show in the feed to five and the two additions (creative vinyasa) are also deleted events in a recurring one.
Thanks!

Hi designsimply
Just checking in if you’ve managed to have a look at the issues with my calendar syncing? The blog posts I’ve seen suggest this hasn’t been resolved for others so if that’s the case I really need to de-activate the widget. No worries if it’s working but people keep wanting to book into classes so I do need to take down the incorrect information.
The events on Jan 9 and 16 showing up on my blog don’t exist in my calendar and aren’t deleted recurring events.
Many thanks,
Rachael -
My apologies. I didn’t see your last reply before!
I checked https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/43djdemn16t5o5tn701j900ii4%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics again and I see these timezone-related settings at the top:
X-WR-CALNAME:Finding Yoga classes and events X-WR-TIMEZONE:Australia/Perth X-WR-CALDESC: BEGIN:VTIMEZONE TZID:Australia/Perth X-LIC-LOCATION:Australia/Perth BEGIN:STANDARD TZOFFSETFROM:+0800 TZOFFSETTO:+0800 TZNAME:WSTNext I looked for an event that could be listed on Jan 9, and I found this one:
BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Australia/Perth:20130402T093000 DTEND;TZID=Australia/Perth:20130402T104500 RRULE:FREQ=WEEKLY EXDATE;TZID=Australia/Perth:20131001T093000 EXDATE;TZID=Australia/Perth:20131008T093000 EXDATE;TZID=Australia/Perth:20131231T093000 EXDATE;TZID=Australia/Perth:20140107T093000 DTSTAMP:20140108T160434Z UID:F29A8456-53C4-4B0C-818A-2AA519B379E7 CREATED:20130320T045135Z DESCRIPTION: LAST-MODIFIED:20140103T072251Z LOCATION:Sun Salute Yoga SEQUENCE:0 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Gentle Yoga for Persistent Pain TRANSP:OPAQUE END:VEVENTI’m not sure if that’s the even you saw listed in your widget or not, but it has some complex rules, and I bet you could fix the problem with the Jan 9 event in the short term by finding the older one from 2013 with the title “Gentle Yoga for Persistent Pain” and removing it.
I also checked for an even on Jan 16, and I found the same title, “Gentle Yoga for Persistent Pain.” Could you try searching for events with the title “Gentle Yoga for Persistent Pain” and removing that one recurring event from the past in your calendar since it seems to be causing some odd problems?
Were those events on Jan 9 and 16 the only remaining problems left?
