Upcoming Events Widget shows no upcoming events
-
I installed the Upcoming Events Widget in my side bar a while back. In the last couple days it is now showing no upcoming events. I deleted the widget and reinstalled it – entered the ical link and its still not working.
Help please. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having the same problem: my events were there, now they are not. I have since deleted the widget from my sidebar and reinstalled, but still no-go. Also had the same info on a page where I had to insert my ical url into the [upcomingevents url="ICALENDARURL"] command. Deleted that page and recreated it, but still a no-go.
Events for both are not recurring events, but input individually into my google calendar.
The blog in question is: https://b-sidegrowlers.com/
The ical url in question is: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/bsidegrowlers%40gmail.com/public/basic.icsAlso, in both cases the ical address I copy into the widget should be just text, not an actual link, correct?
Hope this wasn’t too wordy, any insight is appreciated.

I’m having the same problem. Events aren’t showing up on JeanneFritch.com (https://wordpress.com/customize/jeannefritchdotcom.wordpress.com)

WordPress support, by what I see in this and other posts, this problem has persisted for over a week. My hope and expectation is that you give attention to it soon…actually, wondering why there’s been no response yet.
Until then, to avoid reader confusion I temporarily disabled both my calendar page and my upcoming events widget in my sidebar.

I too am having problems; strangely enough one of my “upcoming events” for one calendar IS working and the other is not. Has anyone discovered a solution so far or had their’s start working?
-
Been re-installing both the widget and the calendar page daily, usually with no luck, but today it worked! Not sure what changed…my calendar did not and I see no updates from WordPress. Whatever, hope it sticks.

Am also having the same issue with both the sidebar widget and the upcoming-events shortcode.
Was working fine for the past 2 years and then abruptly stopped working ~a week ago.
Affected blog is: http://jacobbeaudry.wordpress.com

Hi Everyone,
I’m happy to help each of you get this sorted out. In the future, if you’re in need of staff attention, just type ‘modlook’ into the tags sidebar and click Add. This notifies us that you’re in need of our help. Subscribing to the thread will notify you via email of our response. You can also get in touch via this form.
If you do not already have it saved, here is our guide for using the upcoming events widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/upcoming-events/
@bsideblogger – It looks like you were able to get your upcoming events widget back to working order. Is there anything else I can help you with?
@patel4pusd – You’re upcoming events are showing here. Do you need any further help with this widget?
@jeannefritch – I see your events listed on the events page. I’ve updated your primary domain so that people will see https://jeannefritch.com/ when they come to your site instead of your free .wordpress.com site. Let me know if you have
any questions about this.@wossiac – You have 2 events calendars showing in your right hand sidebar. For MHL and MPM2DB, is this correct? Do you still need help?
@ mcgillcalhelp – The calendar link that you add to the widget needs to start with http and end in .ics see here. Also, verify that the calendar you’re using is set to public display.
Be sure to let me know of any additional questions!

staff-zinnia Thank you for the reply.
I am not using a google calendar, rather I am syncing from Calendar.app (formerly iCal) on OS X. The calendar (ical) links are not formatted in the http … .ics format, rather they are in the “webcal://…” format. I have been using these for the past 2-3 years without any problem and it is only in the last ~week or so that they have stopped displaying the feed.
I’ve tried to find support documentation about feeds from Apple’s Calendar app; however, only wp.org resources turn up.
Finally, all the calendar feeds are indeed set to public. Again, these feeds have been operating without issue for the past 2-3 years or so.
Thank you kindly for your help in resolving this issue!

@mcgillcalhelp – Thanks for that info. Can you try adding a full day event to your calendar and then see if that displays appropriately on your site? Also, do you have any recurring events on there?

I have added an all-day event to the feed that should appear on the sidebar widget. If you would like me to add one to the shortcode widget included in the content of each of the main pages, let me know and I will create additional events.
&nd no, I have resorted to manually creating every event because I was experiencing too many problems with repeating events.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help you troubleshoot the issue.
All the bet,
RA

Hi staff-zinnia – I love your title! I just added the calendar to substitute for the broken upcoming events side bar widget – I put the widget back and its working now. Thank you so much!

Hi @mcgillcalhelp –
When I load the link from your widget into my own Google calendar I am only able to see one event. It is a 1 hour event from last Sunday 9/25. There are no upcoming events listed on this calendar through the end of next year. Perhaps the events are being added to a different calendar?
Fantastic! I’m glad it’s working for you again. Best wishes :)

Thank you. No, the events were in the right calendar; however, it looks as though Apple may have updated the way they share calendar links without backwards compatibility. I only stumbled on this solution accidentally as I created a new calendar for a new class and it was the only one working.
Here is an example of the old format (note “subscribe” vs. “published”) as I suspect other Apple users will experience the same issue if they have long-standing calendars:
*previous version*
*new version*
A quick search online did not turn up any info about this change on Apple’s end; however, republishing each of the calendars generated a new url in the new “published” url form and, after adding the new urls, everything is showing up again.
Thank you for your time!
All the best,
RA

Yes, staff-zinnia, thanks, up and running again. Just wondering, do we know what the hiccup was for that week or so? Curious minds….
Thanks again.
