upcomingevents shortcode: a Summary is not a Title

Hello, I’ve posted many WordPress.com blogs, and the “upcomingevents” shortcode is a constant source of extreme annoyance. The shortcode places the word “Summary” in the header of what should be called the event “Title,” or simply, “Event,” column. And the Event Title is the third column from the left, when it should be the first. These attributes make the display VERY CONFUSING to readers.

What I have, in the past, done to compensate, is to buy a custom CSS upgrade, and then engage in various stupid acrobatics. I place two identical shortcodes side by side and hide some of the columns (so that the event title appears on the left); then I use display:none and the ::after CSS attribute to change the word “Summary” to “Title.” But the small charitable organization I’m assisting with a new blog does not have extra money to upgrade to custom CSS (which is the only way I know to correct the problem).

Is there some way, short of spending money, to change the listings so that the header is called “Title” or “Event?”

This question is for the support team: How difficult would it be to add a parameter that allowed the user to specify header text? It would also be just glorious if the shortcode had some parameters that allowed the user to choose which columns to display, and in what order.

A decent workaround would be if the Upcoming Events widget (rather than shortcode) could be used in the Main Column of a blog, but I can’t seem to do that either.

    Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback! There isn’t currently a way to make the changes you mentioned, but I see what you mean about the upcoming events header text being potentially confusing. I’ll pass along your suggestions to our team so they can keep them in mind for a future update to that shortcode.
