  I am trying to update to wordpress version 4.0.1 and the website hangs up.

  You don’t need to. And you can’t.

  http://gbsnplr.wordpress.com/ is a WordPress.com blog and Wp.com staffers take care of all upgrades. Generally speaking we’re about six months ahead of whatever version Wp.org bloggers are working with, in this case 4.0.1.

  If you’re asking about a different blog that’s running WordPress.org software, you need to be asking in the WordPress.org forums.
