Update 2.8.0

  Haven’t opened WP for some time. Did so a day ago. Got a pop-up saying something about downloading the latest update (2.8.0). Clicked button to download, but nothing happened. Haven’t seen anything about the update since. What’s up?

  Hi!

  Just to dig a little deeper, where did you see this message about an update?

  Your blog definitely seems to be managed here on WordPress.com but that sort of update sounds like something that would happen on WordPress.org.

  Do you have another blog? Again, just trying to gather some information to better assist you =)

  Hi there, hope you don’t mind me jumping in on this thread. Just to clarify, all necessary updates to our WordPressdotcom sites are done behind the scenes by our Happiness Engineers. We do not need to install or update any software on our WordPressdotcom sites.

  Also, pop-ups notifications are not used here on WordPressdotcom.

  If you are talking about your WordPressdotcom site, you may wish to check your computer and browser for malware/adware.

  As it happens, I opened WP on my laptop again and the pop-up appeared. I have the free version. I downloaded the setup exe and it installed quickly. I now have 2.8.0 on my laptop. I guess it simply didn’t install correctly when I first attempted the update. Thanks for your responses. All seems well now

  I’ve just had the same problem with the wordpress app for windows desktop. It said there was a new update but when I clicked on it it took me to Edge browser which said it couldn’t find the page. I tried closing the app and reopening in the hope the update would come back but it didn’t. It’s a shame as I thought I saw the new update integrates with Google photo’s which would be really helpful to me. If I just download the app from your site will it sort itself out and delete the old version of the app?

  Looks like there’s a problem with the v2.9.0 download link, as the link on apps.wordpress.com also doesn’t work for me.

  Meanwhile, you can try downloading the app directly from its GitHub repository:

  https://github.com/Automattic/wp-desktop/releases/download/v2.9.0/WordPress.com-2.9.0-Setup.exe

  If you run the installer on your PC it should automatically update the version you already have installed.
