Update “blogname” option from plugin

    Hi guys,

I have a question about creating plugin’s that l hope someone can help me out with.
I’m following the basic tutorial found in the WP codex and l’m trying to expand upon it a bit. I hope this is an okay place to post this, l didnt’ find a development or plugins section in the forums and l’m quite new to the site’s forum layout.

In any event, l’m trying to include a field that will allow the user to update the blogname option (l know this is found in other screens, but l’d like it to be editable from my plugin’s page).

    Right now l have this:
    <input name="blogname" type="text" id="blogname" value="<?= get_option('blogname'); ?>" class="regular-text" />

Which pulls in my blogname on the field, but when l type something in there and submit it to options.php it doesn’t get updated (tho other items on the page l submit do). Can anyone explain this, and give me a work around?

    Thanks,

Well – part of the problem is you are in the wrong Forum.

this site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you want to make the Plug-in for: http://wordpress.org/support/

Ummm, I’m not to sure how useful this would be considering changing a blog name after you once get established with throw the search engines into a fit of jealous rage, not to mention that any “brand” you have built up with the other name will be complete nuked.

People need to think carefully on their blog name/title when they first get started and after a week or perhaps two at the most, the title should be final and set so as not to shoot yourself in the foot. Changing blog titles after the search engines have indexed your blog, and you have any page rank at all is a really, really, really, really BAD idea.

@thesacredpath – so I guess I am stuck with the “Boating Safety Tips, Tricks & Thoughts from Captnmike.” that I just babbled onto the original .ORG install when I had not a clue what WordPress anything was (other than it was free and my host had a “click here” button)?? Given my past humor I probably could have done much worse.

Sort of like the auxclass I guess also – (was a proof of concept demo for some boating safety stuff) – guess I have been called worse – oh well –

One other note: Why add the extra plugin overhead to your blog’s memory requirements? WordPress is already nearing critical mass and on some hosts you cannot even use the auto upgrade on themes, plugins or core wordpress since you run up against the PHP memory limits.

I’ve been taking plugins that were marginally needed out of my installation and in other cases installing smaller, more compact plugins with only the features I need.

The title does not change very often, why not just point a user to the existing page to update the title? Seems easier and quicker to me.

I am however amazed at the number of people that still have the “Just another…” stock tag line on blogs that are a year or more old.
