Update on new editor
-
Any update when the “parent page” problem is going to be fixed in the new editor? Like many others, I can’t publish any page until the navigation problem is sorted in the drop down menu on the edit and create pages.
Oh, and the text colouring in the new editor doesn’t work yet either.
I’m astonished at the rollout of this new editor. Lots of bugs when the classic one was just fine. Been at a standstill now for 3 days. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi paulveverka,
I just tried changing color of my post’s text and it worked.
Do note that exactly where the color changes are reflected depends on your theme as well. Some do not display colored text on the front page and will only do so when you open the full post. Try it and let us know.
As for your other query, are you trying to make a page appear as the drop-down of a parent page in one of the menus?
If so, have you tried using Custom Menus for it? Its editor can be found at Dashboard > Menus.
You can make any page become a child by clicking the + button on the intended parent and then clicking “Add menu item to children”.

The parent that you choose in the new editor works as expected though — it will make the page being edited appear as a child in the URL of the parent page.
For example, if you make the “About” page a parent of “New”, then the latter will appear after the former in URL. Something like abc.wordpress.com/about/new/.
To add these to the menus though, you will have to use the Menus editor.

Hi, thanks for your response. However, what you have described is not the issue.
I’m not trying to create drop down menus on my site. Its when editing or creating a page and assigning a parent page. You can only assign at the moment one level up as a parent page. If you have a new page on a level below that, the drop down menu on the editor itself breaks. It doesn’t show all the page choices , leaving people with sub menus, unable to assign navigation correctly.
e.g for pages:
yoursite/grandparent……. is ok to create and edit
yoursite/grandparent/parent…… is also ok to create and edit and in the editor permits you to assign “parent” to parent page “grandparent”
BUT yoursite/grandparent/parent/child………is the editor only gives the choice of assigning it to grandparent, not parent. The editor is broken and I’ve been unable to blog since 1st July since forced to use the new editor. (Like many others on the forum)
The visual editor is also broken. When changing the colour of the text, say from black to purple, the visual editor keeps the text as black and does not update it visually (certainly on Oxygen theme). When you click on publish, however, it shows it as purple. SO annoying to see a visual editor thats not anything like you want it to be. Thats more minor, the issue about the Parent Pages not working in the new editor (beyond assigning 2 or more deep) is more serious and leaves me at standstill.
Thanks for your reply. I’ve posted three times about the issue since 1st July but not been favoured with a response yet. I just don’t get it. I would think the assigning of parent pages would be a PRIORITY issue. I wish they would just allow ALL pages to be chosen from in that parent page box at the side of the new editor, not give us a random sample of 20 possible pages. As i say, stuck, and won’t be upgrading to premium until that issue is resolved.
We all currently cannot assign a nested page two or more deep

it seems such a simple fix for engineers just to enable choice of ALL pages in the “parent page” box at the side of the new editor.

The parent page issue in the ghastly ‘beep beep boop’ thing is a massive problem for me.
There was NOTHING wrong with the previous editor.
Now, to edit an existing page in terms of its parentage, I can no longer just click ‘edit’ … instead I must go through four, yes, FOUR, clicks to get back to the classic editor via WP Admin.
This has seriously messed-up my ability to work efficiently. I am VERY unhappy.
