Update to WordPress 4.9 from WordPress 4.4
-
I am trying to update to the latest WordPress version (4.9) but I cannot figure out how to do that. We have our WordPress files stored on GoDaddy.com in cPanel on the GoDaddy Website. How do I update it on the GoDaddy website? WordPress doesn’t even offer the option for me to update it when I log in and thinks it is updated to the latest version.
I would prefer to have WordPress contact us but if anyone can figure this out, please respond to this forum ASAP. Thank you.

Here at WordPress.com we don’t need to worry about updates. Your unnamed site will be using the WordPress.org software so you’ll need to ask for advice either at your host GoDaddy or in the WordPress.org support forum. https://wordpress.org/support/

I already tried asking GoDaddy.com. They could not help us. They just know how to update when there’s wordpress files on the computer. They said they were unable to help. I wish there was a customer service phone number for wordpress.

Hi @monello123,
As @themagicrobot wrote above, from the information you provide, It looks like you need help with a self-hosted WordPress.org site. These forums are only for sites hosted on WordPress.com. To make things a little bit clearer:
WordPress comes in two flavors: WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
With WordPress.org, you use the self-hosted, open source version of the WordPress software, it means you host your own blog. It also means you can freely upload and install themes and plugins, edit the code behind your site, have access to your site’s database, etc. But it also means more responsibility (you have to take care of backups, upgrade the software version, security, etc.).
With WordPress.com instead, you don’t have to download software, pay for hosting, or manage a web server. WordPress.com takes care of all of the hostings, security, backup. etc. You have some limitations with a free plan (you can’t upload any custom themes, plugins or modify the code behind your blog), but some of those options are available with an Upgraded Plan.
For more information on the differences between the two, please check the support page (posted above by @themagicrobot):
For WordPress.org support, as mentioned earlier, you can visit:
https://wordpress.org/support/
You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:

Be sure to provide a link to your site when you post so people can help you more easily.
In general, you can find all the documentation for WordPress.org (lessons, troubleshooting, etc.) here:

With WordPress.orf sites usually, when a new version of WordPress is available you will receive an update message in your WordPress Admin Screens (www.nameofyoursite.com/wp-admin). To update WordPress, you usually just need to click the link in this message.
You can also check this comprehensive support guides about upgrading WordPress:
