Updated A record now getting Privacy error
-
Hello. Trying to move to self hosted. Setup site with new host and updated A record. Now the site is unavailable and showing below privacy message. Any ideas? Thanks
peteandclauds.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Google Chrome tried to connect to peteandclauds.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be peteandclauds.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Google Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.
You cannot visit peteandclauds.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

Hi there,
This is normal.
While your domain was hosted with us, we issued an SSL certificate so your site will load for people over https. When someone loaded your site, we also placed what is called an HSTS header in your browser that tells the browser it should always load that link as https, even if someone enters it as http.
Because you looked at your site while the domain was still hosted with us, that HSTS header is still active and forcing your domain to load over https. However, you don’t have an SSL certificate set up at your new hosting provider, so your domain can’t load over https.
There is no way to manually cancel the HSTS header, but it will expire automatically within a day or two, and then you’ll be able to load your site over http. Unless someone visited your site in the last few days before you switched, they should not see this warning when trying to view your site, and if you open your site in a different browser you also should not see that warning – it will only appear when trying to load your site in a browser that currently has the HSTS header set.
Of course, the other option is to just enable SSL at your new hosting provider, so your site can continue to load over https. This is good both for privacy, and search engines prefer sites using https. Browsers are also soon going to start showing warnings on all sites that don’t have SSL certificates – Chrome is due to start doing this next month – so it’s recommended to always use an SSL certificate so your domain can load over a secured connection.
To set up SSL on your new site, please contact your hosting provider for help, as that has to be done where a domain is hosted, not where it’s registered.
