Updated page content doesn’t match pages in the editor

I made a number of content changes to my website a month or so ago, and then updated the theme recently (I’m using a child theme) and also updated security to https.

I hadn’t checked until now but when I’m in the editor, the pages present with the old version of my site. What do I do so that the pages in the editor actually reflect the current website?

  • Hi @cranializer, could you send a link to the site you’re having trouble with?

Note these forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com. For help with a WordPress installation hosted somewhere else, you’ll need to use these forums instead:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

I did notice you have an older site that’s hosted on our services — is it possible that when you’re using our editor you are actually viewing the older site? One way to test is to go to the new site while logged in, then click an edit button to see what you see there.

    Hi Supernovia,

Thanks for the suggestion. My site is springtidecraniosacral.ca.

This is kind of ridiculous but I actually don’t know if I’m using .org or .com. Up till now I was pretty certain I was using .org b/c I use external hosting — and I use this to log in: https://springtidecraniosacral.ca/wp-login.php?

I have two different IDs and passwords for WP — not sure how that happened.

    1. I can log into WP.com and I get an updated interface. It’s still the same username (@cranializer).

If I click “view springtidecraniosacral.ca” in the top left, I can see my site with all the updates.

BUT then if I go to Pages and try to click on a page to edit it, I get redirected to

    https://springtidecraniosacral.ca/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.com%2Fpage%2Fspringtidecraniosacral.ca%2F130%3FauthWpAdmin%3Dtrue

and I have to log in again but this time using my second ID/password. Then I get an older interface and when I try to edit a page, it appears as it was before the content was updated.

Could something have changed because of updating my theme?

  • Hello there,

It looks like you’re using self-hosted WordPress with Dreamhost (.org).

It sounds like you’re logging into to separate entities and you’re seeing two different things.

Your site would be managed at https://springtidecraniosacral.ca/wp-admin – rather than WordPress.com.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks, aleone89. That makes sense.

So now I need help with two things:

    1. The editor shows my site before the recent round of content updates were made (in February). How do I fix this?

    2. Why do I have a .com account that is able to access the website, using a different ID and password? Can I delete this account without affecting the .org account?

Actually I guess question #1 should be posed at the .org forum? I will do that.

    Update:

While already logged into wordpress through https://springtidecraniosacral.ca/wp-admin, I tried posting on the wordpress.org forum but it wanted me to log in first. So I tried, using the same userID and password but it does not work.

I tried asking for a password reset, using that same userID but I haven’t received anything (and yes, checked spam folder).

Much like WordPress.com uses a separate username and password than the one you use to manage your website, WordPress.org the website also uses a separate username and password than the one you use to manage your site.

If you don’t have a WordPress.org user account, you can register for one here:

    https://login.wordpress.org/register?locale=en_US

    To answer your earlier question:

Why do I have a .com account that is able to access the website, using a different ID and password? Can I delete this account without affecting the .org account?

It looks like your site is using the Jetpack plugin, which requires a WordPress.com user account and connection to function properly. If you deleted the WordPress.com user account, you would break the functionality of that plugin.

    I hope that clarifies things!

Oh, thank you. Yes, that helps.

I will ask here since I am unable to ask on the wordpress.org forum:

When I try creating a new account at .org, it says my username already exists, but when I click the link to reset my password, I don’t get anything in my inbox or spam folders.

I don’t know what my associated email address is; how can I find out?

  • WordPress.org is entirely separate from how you log into your site and WordPress.com.

If you’ve never posted there before, you’ll need to register for a new account.
