Updates page

Hello all. I am not new to WordPress, as I have used the site for two other blogs, one still active/current. I had thought when you created a WP Website, you were allowed a Homepage – given, a posts page, and and an updates page. I have set up my posts page, but trying to set up an updates page and everything is grouped together under the SLBVN page. Am I wrong in my thinking? If so, is there any way I can rectify this situation so both the posts and updates are on separate pages? This is frustrating me beyond belief.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Jennifer Rose

  • Hi Jennifer,

We have never had anything called an Updates page on WordPress.com. The open source WordPress software by default supports two types of content – pages, that are meant for static/permanent content, and posts, that appear in the site’s feed. All published posts will always appear on the site feed, also known as the posts page. This is at the very core of how WordPress works, and has always been the case for as long as this software has existed.

The only way to have specific posts appear on their own separate page, is to assign a category to them, which creates a category archive page, but that does not remove those posts from the main posts page.

If you’ve previously had a WordPress site with a separate Updates content type with its own separate feed, that was a self-hosted WordPress site where you were using a plugin to add this additional content type. I don’t personally know of any plugins that add a content type with that name.
