updating a published post?

What happens when I update a post that has already been published? I’ve been going over my older posts because I did not tag them properly. I was such a “newbie”. I’ve learned so much since then. So I’ve been going back over my older published posts and updating them by tagging them appropriately. What happens to my posts when I do that?

Also, is it ok to republish some of these older posts if I change the title? I haven’t done that yet but am wondering if I should or if it’s considered a no-no. Because of the lack of tags, I’m sure they evaporated into thin air.

Thanks for your help. I always try to find my answer elsewhere first but couldn’t find this anywhere. You guys are great.

Change away – that is normal – the Post just gets updated

Limit combined categories and tags to a total count per Post of 12 max – less is more & better

Just update the older Posts – if you copy and make the same Post over search engines will ding you for duplicate content and that is bad

If you have an old Post you are proud of but did not get noticed you have two options , easiest – make it “sticky” and that will put the Post back on the top of the front page – or you can write a new Post and maybe some new facts or observations then reference the earlier Post

If you have early Posts with no Tags / Categories go back and add them or fine tune them

Think of Categories as a broad large group and Tags to fine tune the detail of what a Post is about
