updating across versions of WordPress

Hello, I am trying to update from version 4.4.4 to the current one, and the directions on upgrading across versions are extraordinarily confusing. I’ve completed through step 6, downloading the intermediary version and unzipping it, but I cannot figure out step 7 or 8. I upload files using media library, and cannot find any the listed files anywhere on my wordpress interface. Also, there is no way I can figure out to get the WordPress folder from my home computer to my Bluehost account page, as described in step 8. Can you please send more explicit instructions? It is very frustrating that the help article is so unclear. In the past I have simply hit the ‘update’ button on my dashboard and having to go through all these extra steps is very difficult.

    Hi,
It looks like you’re trying to update self-hosted WordPress. This forum can only provide support for sites hosted at WordPress.com.

The support forum for self-hosted WordPress is at https://wordpress.org/support/
You should also be able to get help upgrading from Bluehost if you’re really stuck. The instructions you were reading would require you to have FTP access to your hosting space on Bluehost.

But – If you are upgrading from 4.4.4, I’m not sure that you need to go through the manual update process. Don’t you have an “upgrade” button when you log into your dashboard? If not, can you go to Dashboard > Updates and do it from there?
