Updating administrator
-
When I first set up my site I hired someone to set up and so we were both listed in the profiles. Now I am trying to transfer my domain to another registrar and am having trouble. I think I need to change the administrator section; but am not sure what is the best procedure. Right now I am denied every time I try to transfer the domain
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
It looks like your account is the owner of the domain kathywardhandweaving.com and it’s ready to be transferred. I noticed an auth code was already sent to you.
Are you still having trouble trying to transfer the domain? If so, please tell us some more details about that. Thanks! -
I have tried several times to transfer the domain. Each time it is denied and I receive emails from WordPress.
Last Saturday I received this: The current registrar, Wild West Domains, LLC for the domain kathywardhandweaving.com rejected the transfer request you submitted.
Pursuant to established Registry procedures, the transfer is declined.
Please contact the current registrar listed above for a further explanation of the rejection.
I also received this on Saturday: The request to transfer the following domain name(s) to another registrar has been denied. The domain(s) currently has Private Registration:
kathywardhandweaving.com
If you still want to transfer the domain(s) to another registrar, you must first cancel your Private Registration(s).
I had some create this account and site in the beginning and she is still on the account; but she supposedly made me the administrator; but I don’t think it is entirely moved over. Yesterday I attempted again to transfer; and I didn’t even receive an authentication code. I can’ seem to start a live chat with WordPress to go over everything which I why I think I don’t have the full authority of the site.
What can I do?
-
You still have Privacy Protection on the domain, hence the problem.
Please make sure that you follow the steps at https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/#preparing-the-domain-transfer
-
I have followed the steps in the link you gave me. I just did again, and it came up and said that it was unlocked and ready for transfer. Not mention of private registration. I requested the code and this time I actually received it. Now this has happened before and I have used the code to transfer but then am denied the transfer. I haven’t tried with this new code yet; but I feel like the same is going to happen.
Can you answer why I am unable to start a live chat to step though this? I don’t know if it’s because the person who started and created the site for me is still on the account or not; I just don’t want to remove things and regret it. If you can give me any reason why I can’t do a live chat that would be great.
In the meantime I guess I’ll try again with the new authentication code.
-
At the moment, you’d need a paid plan to reach live chat support: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
I saw that privacy was still enabled on the domain, I have switched that off from our end, so hopefully it’ll all work this time.
-
I just tried again, and the same emails came back to me and it failed to transfer. I don’t see anywhere the mention of private registration with the information you sent me.
I am getting extremely frustrated and would really like to have a live chat if you can tell me why I’m unable to do that.
-
Our replies may have crossed.
The domain is now properly unlocked with privacy properly disabled.
Please wait about an hour, just to make sure the changes settle, then try again.
-
I waited a full day before trying again and it has still not transferred. I received the same messages from WordPress that I copied earlier. I don’t know what to do anymore this is very frustrating.
-
Hm, so Private Registration is still on, but that’s not your fault. I see several logged events from both you and me switching it off, nothing logged switching it back on, and yet it’s on.
I’m asking our developers to take a look, and we’ll let you know when we hear back.
-
Ok, we found a bug on our end, thanks! :)
With this fixed now, it will definitely work, though I recommend waiting an hour again, as the change needs to to propagate enough to be seen by the receiving registrar.
-
Well I waited 90 minutes and then tried again and again it failed to transfer. One thing that has changed, I waited about 10 minutes to see if I would received the emails from WordPress about not being able to transfer; and so far I haven’t received any emails. So do you think I haven’t waited long enough fore the change to reach out enough to be seen by the receiving registrar? I’ll try again tomorrow; but wanted you to know that nothing happened after your bug fix,
-
Yeah, try again tomorrow.
There was/is 2 problems here:
1. A bug prevented the Private Registration from being properly removed. That is fixed now, and properly removed.
2. The changes need to propagate across the internet and reach your receiving registrar, so they can see that Private Registration has been removed. 1 hour is kind of the minimum time, 24 hours should be more than enough.

This is getting crazy. I am still not connecting. It just tells me there’s an error and that I should check with my current provider. I don’t seem to be getting those emails from WordPress any longer; but Shopify is still telling that it can’t connect and the problem is at your end. They say check that it is unlocked and I know it is; so I don’t what to do any more. I have spent way too much time on something that shouldn’t be that complicated. I own the domain why can’t I move it.
-
OK, maybe I sent that note too soon. I just received an email from WordPress that a request has been made to transfer the domain. So I’m hoping that even though Shopify told me it failed, maybe it is going through anyway. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for now and hope that it succeeds. Will follow up.
