Updating DNS for root domain, if I can't transfer domain (under the 60 days)

Is there a way to point my root domain to a different IP address? I noticed in the “Custom DNS” that you are not allowed to update the A record for the root domain, that “You must use another DNS hosting provider if you want to do that.”.
If I am unable to transfer my domain, under the 60 day period — is there another way?

Usually just changing the name servers to your new host works. a few hosts need an IP number. For some fancy moving the staff can add some records for you, but I forget exactly which records can be modified
I will flag this for the staff to give you more info.

A little more background, I am running this on my own server and not another hosting platform. I am not clear how changing the nameservers will work in this case.

Normally hosts do some sort of mapping to match your domain name to where your blog is located on their servers –

As mentioned in my original question, I am using my own server and not a hosting service. We purchased the domain through WordPress.com and have no access to change the root DNS record.

Until you give a bit more info, even if the staff can map a domain name to a static IP address, nobody can help you

I would be happy to give a staff member my IP address, I just don’t see the point of posting it here ;)

suite yourself, if all the info needed is in this thread and the staff can help they will help at that time, sometimes I have seen them enter the records for a person, other times they will give clear instructions for you to do it yourself.
If you don’t want to post all the info here, they then will need to ask for the info to be posted, or sometimes send an email, then wait for you to read your email and respond, then for them to work through their backlog to your reply or for them to come back on shift to find your reply
