Updating email address in Account Settings not working/working strangely
-
I will try my best to start with a single image best summing my issue, then explain from there:

All right, here is my issue:
I am Eric Bailey.
I have a few free wordpress sites I want to admin (cozyscroll.wordpress.com, tinyblogshelf.wordpress.com, and waveformepsilon.wordpress.com not yet launched).
I have two email address under my control:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
My desired outcome: I want to log into wordpress/WP under the ericvbailey86 gmail address, have admin control over those sites, and leave comments linked to that email address as well.
My experience, however:
1) I log into wordpress.com linked to my (email visible only to moderators and staff) account.
2) I have admin control over the three wordpress sites. I can write blog posts, change themes, do all that just fine. Mostly, things are great!
3) However, whenever I leave a comment on a wordpress site, my comment is linked to the (email visible only to moderators and staff) address.
4) Whenever I try to access my profile account settings, as shown in the image, it shows the tinybookshelfgames address (the one I do not want to use).
5) But whenever I try to change the email address to the ericvbailey86 address I want to use, I get the error.
I have tried doing this through other avenues, such as the “transfer ownership” function under the Sites menu. Bizarrely, even after undergoing the steps, this does not seem to change functionality at all. I still log in linking/using the ericvbailey86 gmail address but WordPress is then ‘stuck’ in the tinybookshelfgames gmail address.
I have also tried looking up other forum posts, I promise, but have not found this exact issue rectified elsewhere.
I cannot emphasize enough: I am never, at any point, choosing the tinybookshelfgames gmail account. WordPress just seems to automatically revert to that despite my using the ericvbailey86 gmail account to log in. I click ‘log in,’ I use the gmail link, I used the ericvbailey86 address, but the moment I’m ‘logged in’ WordPress acts like I’m in the tinybookshelfgames account.
I do not want to use the tinybookshelfgames gmail account. I want the ericvbailey86 gmail account to do everything.
I would deeply appreciate any help. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @cozyscroll! Thanks for sharing the details with us.
The issue you’re running into is that both email addresses you’d like to use are already linked to separate WordPress.com accounts, and email addresses can’t be reused across accounts.
One option is to transfer your sites from one account to another so you can manage them all under the email you’d prefer. You can follow the steps in this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/transfer-a-site/After the transfer, you’ll be able to manage everything from your preferred account.
Just a quick note — since this is a public forum, it’s best not to share sensitive information like email addresses, as everything posted here is visible to everyone.
Let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help. We’re happy to help however we can.

I appreciate your input!
Even before (or after) I perform any site transfers, is there anything I can do about the issue where I am using one gmail address to log in, but when I do so WordPress acts like I am logged in under a different address?

You’re welcome, @cozyscroll!
I checked your account and noticed that the three sites you mentioned are all linked to the tinybookshelf email address. Your other email is connected to a different set of sites. To avoid any confusion and make sure you’re viewing the correct sites, I recommend logging out and then logging back in with the email address linked to the sites you’re trying to manage. Since there’s no connection between the two accounts, logging in with the correct one should help you see the right sites.
Let me know if you run into any trouble or have any questions. I’ll be here and happy to help!

I don’t mean to sound dumb, but why do the sites matter? I’ll try to explain:
If I open a new browser window, on a completely separate machine, and go to wordpress.com, and log in with one gmail address — wordpress acts as though I am logged in under the other one.
This, very specifically, is the part I do not understand and want to fix. Regardless of which site is linked to which address, before I’ve even selected any sites wordpress/WP is doing this.
Is there a way to fix this, so that I am logged in under the email address I actually use to log in?
It doesn’t seem like correct functionality to me, that when I use one gmail address to log in, but click into my profile (or leave comments, etc.) it is clearly using the other address.

Looking at AI it says:
When you comment on a WordPress.com site, the comment is associated with the email address linked to your WordPress.com account, even if it’s different from the email you use to log in. If you want to use a different email for comments, you’ll need to manage your Gravatar account, which is used to display your profile picture and email address on comments

I mean, that’s interesting, but even before I leave a comment, I don’t understand why/how I’m selecting one email address at log in, but the moment I’m logged in I can click into my profile and it shows me under a different email address. I don’t understand how that’s even possible.
I’m used to this relationship with technology, where I seem to encounter issues nobody else does, but it does get wearisome. I will just continue as-is I suppose.
