Updating Failed Message – Receiving with Increased Frequency
-
Ever since the block editor update, I’ve been receiving the following message when drafting posts with an increased frequency: ‘Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post.’ I hadn’t navigated away from the page I had been editing, but this message pops up frequently and it doesn’t seem to matter if I click the ‘save draft’ button or it’s autosaving, it still pops up. This is incredibly frustrating to have to constantly deal with – is there something that I should be doing differently or is this a bug of some sort?
-
Hmm, that does sound frustrating. Could you send a link to the site you’re having trouble with?
Also, does it matter which browser you use?
-
My site is makinggoodstories.wordpress.com – I’m not sure if you need the more post(s) specific link.
I’ve exclusively used Chrome when using WordPress and admit that I didn’t think about switching browsers. I did experiment with Edge today and haven’t gotten the message yet.

I don’t see any problems in particular there.
First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
