updating internal links and images after moving site

I moved a self-hosted site to wordpress.com. As a consequence of the move all internal links broken and images show blank because they point to the old web address. I can of course change them all manually but there are hundreds of links to be changed. Is there a way to automate this process? (At least for the internal links, I can live with having to do the images manually as they’re not so many.)
