Updating Misty Lake

I want to update my theme (I see that MistyLake has one) but I’m terrified that I will lose all my information or it won’t place in the positions I need it to…please advise how this updates. I don’t mind tweaking, but I just don’t see how it can update correctly…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t update a retired theme. You can only stick with it or pick a new theme. You won’t lose your information, although to be safe you should copy all your text widgets first. If you switch to a narrower theme, you might need to fix some formatting. But that’s all.

To clarify, WP calls Misty Lake an “update” of MistyLook, but it’s not really an update, it’s just a new theme.
If you like MistyLook more, you can stick with it; if you’d rather switch to a different theme, it doesn’t have to be Misty Lake.

    Thanks!

Raincoaster, when you say copy all text and widgets, you mean just a simple copy and paste to a word doc, etc. for backup.

When you do switch themes, what does the program do with info?

    You’re welcome.

    Yes, that’s what she means.

When you switch to a new theme, the content of your posts and pages remains unaffected; the styling may be different.
If the two themes have the same structure, your widgets remain in place, otherwise they get deactivated; you go to Appearance > Widget and move them back from Inactive to Sidebar (or other widget area).
If you had created and loaded a custom top menu it gets deactivated; you go to Appearance > Menus and set it as your primary menu again.
Each theme has different header dimensions, so you’ll have to reupload a header image.
