Updating nameservers

  • Unknown's avatar

To confirm, you’d like http://doingwellcentre.com to be pointing to WordPress.com? If that’s the case, you will need to update the name servers at GoDaddy, as that’s not something we have access to on our end.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Nope.

As I had mentioned earlier, both domains were

      purchased directly

from wordpress. It’s only that when I log in to the admin panel to edit the Nameservers setting, I saw this ns23.domaincontrol.com and ns24.domaincontrol.com in http://doingwellcentre.com. Therefore I was puzzled and googled on these 2 NS, and found out that the registrar indicated “godaddy.com”.

I could make changes to the nameservers for http://jasonslleow.com, but I couldn’t make any changes to http://doingwellcentre.com, cuz on the left hand side menu (in admin panel) of “Domain Management”, it only shows – Email and Edit DNS. There is no option in the menu where I can click to edit Nameserver.

Both domains are supposed to point to wordpress.com, but http://doingwellcentre.com will be the primary domain. When this was the primary domain, I got a “404 Error – page not found”. But when I tried to set jasonslleow.com as the primary domain (with the ns1, ns2 and ns3.wordpress.com setting), it worked perfectly where I could see all my pages, WP posts, etc.

But when I key in http://doingwellcentre.com, I will have this 404 Error.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this, but if a domain isn’t registered through our system, we’re unable to modify the DNS settings such as updating name servers, and they won’t appear in your Domains tab.

According to a WHOIS search on doingwellcentre.com, the domain was registered via GoDaddy on April 23, 2014:
    http://who.is/whois/doingwellcentre.com

This is different from jasonslleow.com, which was registered through WordPress.com (Wild West Domains):
    http://who.is/whois/jasonslleow.com

You *do* have domain mapping for doingwellcentre.com, which is necessary to use the domain with us, but the domain itself was registered elsewhere.

If you’re still having trouble with this, please contact GoDaddy support, and they should be able to sort things out for you.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Actually this account belongs to my friend and I’m only asking on his behalf (as he’s not too familiar with these settings and stuff).

I have done WHOIS lookup previously for these 2 domains and yes, they are 2 registrars. However, when I double check with my friend, he insisted that he had bought these 2 domains from wordpress (he paid $13 for the mapping). I have tried calling up GoDaddy to enquire about this domain and I think they said that wordpress also resell their hosting plan or something (not sure if I heard it correctly)?

    Hi!

I’ve just kind of found out from GoDaddy that this doingwellcentre.com domain was bought through google (complicated stuff -_-)!! Anyhow, thanks so much for the assistance. If there’s anything else that I need help on, I will get back to you. Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

You’re very welcome. I think the confusion came from the fact that your friend *did* buy domain mapping for the domain; he just hadn’t registered it through us. Looks like it’s all sorted for now. Please do feel free to let me know if you have other questions.

    Hi!

The site doingwellcentre.com went live for a couple of hours just now, which meant our settings were all done correctly. But suddenly now we are getting the 404 error again.

It can’t be the settings, can it? Because they were working fine just now.

  • Unknown's avatar

Your site is fine. What you’re experiencing now is that the DNS records need to propagate across the internet. Basically, your domain records have to update in various locations, and this process can take up to 72 hours. If your site isn’t working by Sunday (but probably much sooner), please let me know.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, thanks for responding so quickly. I’ll let you know if nothing happens by Sunday.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks! I can see the site now, so just give it some time and it should be okay.

Hi, I’m having a somewhat similar issue. I bought my domain name (thewestcoastsyndicate.com) on wordpress and I am in the process of transferring that domain to bluehost. When I log onto Bluehost it states it is waiting on WildWestDomain’s to release the domain. Also, when I try to switch the nameservers on my original wordpress blog to point to my new one, once I refresh the bluehost nameservers revert back to the old wordpress ones. I’m still receiving a “success” message, but the nameservers won’t stay saved. Wondering if there is something I can do about it or some way to confirm they’ve switched over rather than waiting 72 hours.

  • Unknown's avatar

If you are transferring your actual domain registrar to Bluehost, please don’t modify your name servers with us right now. Once you have transferred the domain, you will be able to modify the name servers with your new registrar.

  • Unknown's avatar

Alright. Is there a way to rush the transfer process rather than waiting 7 days? When I log onto Bluehost it’s states that it’s waiting for Wild West Domains to release/accept the domain transfer (this was 4 days ago). Just wondering if there is anyone I can contact to expedite the transfer process, because my site is in a weird limbo stage between being transferred and I can’t edit it properly.

  • Unknown's avatar

You should be able to process this transfer immediately on WordPress.com, but we appear to have a glitch that is preventing that from happening. I’m looking into it for you. If you are able to complete the process before you hear back from me, please let me know.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. I’ve been stuck on this issue for a couple days now and I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can without leaving too much stake in a fast and comprehensive WordPress support email back. (Sorry I might be slightly cranky due to the fact that I haven’t received any responses from support emails I’ve sent 5 days ago). Basically want to know if there is something done wrong on my end. I appreciate the help.

  • Unknown's avatar

I fully understand your desire to get this resolved as soon as possible, and I’ll let you know if I find anything out before the three days you have remaining on the transfer expire.

I’m concerned that you mention sending in support requests without a response, since I don’t see a record of any under the email address associated with your account. Did you try contacting us via a different email address perhaps?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes it was with a different email, but this forum seems to be working a lot faster than sending emails back and forth. That would be wonderful, because I really need to start working on the site prior to the time left for the transfer expire.

Side Question: Is there a free plugin or page I can put up to let people know the page is under construction? (I know I can just post a static page stating just that, but just wanted to know if there was a more professional option with wordpress)

  • Unknown's avatar

We don’t have a plugin, but you can create a new page that explains the issue and set that as your front page under Settings > Reading.

Could you post the email address you used for your other support requests so I can connect them and save everyone some time? If you post a complete address here, only staff will be able to see it.

  • Unknown's avatar

There’s nothing more really in the email that I haven’t said here on this topic but for all intensive purposes here is the email I used to email support: ((email visible only to moderators and staff)).
