Updating tags (upper case to lower case)
-
I am the admin for a group blog. For my own anal-retentive reasons, I like to have all tags lower case and all categories capitalized.
Some of the authors create tags on their posts that are capitalized, and I am trying to find a good way to edit the posts to keep the format standardized. I have tried deleting the capitalized tags, saving, and adding them back as lower case. They still show up as upper case when I save again. I’ve also tried adding new lower case tags, saving, then deleting the upper case ones. It still reverts to the original (upper case) tag.
I know this is really minor and nitpicky, but if anyone has a fix I’d love to hear about it. Thanks!

You might want to scan your categories and make sure there are no tags with the same names. This can keep you from being able to change one or the other.
Also as long as there aren’t any duplicates, you should be able to just edit them and make the tags lowercase without having to delete them and then add them back in.
One other thing, since wordpress is database driven, when you delete a tag or category, it is “marked” for deletion and made “not available” but it is not immediately deleted. That is typically done in bulk on a scheduled basis and no one knows what that schedule is.

We only have about 20 posts, so I’m able to easily tell the tags haven’t been used elsewhere. I might try deleting the tags in question on an older post and add them back after a few days. Thanks!
