updating to wordpress version 3
-
Hello.
I am new to the wordpress universe and decided to take some on-line tutorials at Lynda.com to get more familiar with building websites and blogs using wordpress. Right off the bat I see that they are using version 3 and I have (sheepishly) no idea what version I am using of wordpress but the admin interface is clearly different from that on the Lynda tutorial. So I figured I would go and update my version of wordpress to version 3 so that I could easily follow the tutorial. And I am just stumped. Could you help me locate the download (I see it on WordPress.org but not yet on WordPress.com)? Thank you so much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Linda.com applies to self hosted WordPress.org installs. This is WordPress.com and the blog lionked to your username is a free hosted WordPress.com blog. The correct support documentation for your blog is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com The tutorial for new mloggers prepared by Staff is found here http://learn.wordpress.com. Both of those links are found on the bottom of the Admin page of your free hosted WordPress.com blog. Here at WordPress.com Staff do all upgrades and this platform is already running the latest stable version of WordPress. In fact, those versions are intorduced here a full month before they are released to WordPress.org self hosted bloggers for their sites.

Please take the time to carefully read this entry: WordPress.com vs WordPress.org
Please rely only on WordPress.com docmentation only as it is for blogs like your own. -
Thank you so much. I enrolled in the class because it specifically states in the Welcome message that the lessons would involve learning about “cloud based wordpress.com sites” and self hosted sites. Of course, silly me, cloud based would mean all new versions would be published on the wordpress servers.
So, with a cloud based service, do I need to worry about any kind of back up on my site?
Again, thanks for the help.

This blogh (oncloverstreet.wordpress.com/) is a free hosted WordPress.com blog. WordPress.com has numerous redundant servers. However, if you di wish to backup you blog content you can do that in several ways.
The best time to backup your posts is while you are writing them. The best method of doing so is to use an offline blog editor to compose your posts in and to publish the posts directly into your blog. Using an off-line blog editor, rather than posting directly into the editor on any blogging platform provides many advantages the primary one is a copy of everything you create on your own computer.
Another approach is to register another blog, make the visibility “private” and make it into a mirror blog for your main blog. You can export the posts, comments, categories and pages out of one wordpress.com blog and import them into another wordpress.com blog with ease.
