Updating url so that it is easier for buyers to find

    Can I change the url of my website so that buyers can find it more easily, without changing or moving the content and followers?

    Hello there,

    Yes, that’s very possible.

    When a domain is added to a site, all other domains will redirect to it, as well as the content, automatically.

    I’m on a free plan ans cannot afford to upgrade. What happens if I change the domain name? I don’t want to lose the content, I just want to change the name so that it iseasier for buyers to find. Thanks

    Hi there,

    It is not possible to add a domain to a free site… the only way to do this is via our paid plans, such as the Personal Plan listed here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    The added advantage of the Personal plan is that it includes a free domain for the first year, it turns off the advertising we show on free sites (to help keep the lights on) and includes priority email support so you do not need to rely on our public forums to get answers to your questions.

    We handle the site address changes for you, so it’s totally seamless. When you activate your new domain, we place all your exsting site content on that URL, and we redirect traffic from your old URL (to the new one) so that no traffic is lost. It requires absolutely no work on your end.
