Updating Website: How to Keep My Current Website Running While I Re-Design It
-
Hi,
My current fully-functional website is crazywisefilm.com. I want to do a complete redesign of the website, but I want the change to be quick and seamless – without the site being down or ‘under construction’. The method I am trying is I have created a completely new website and imported my crazywisefilm.com WordPress data into this new website. So now all the blogs and posts are in there. Although the website looks like complete crap right now because I don’t have it fully set up with a theme yet. Here are the questions I have…
1. My real site has a lot of built in SEO. Will I lose that when I transfer the domain to the re-designed site? If that’s the case, is there a different way I can go about this that will preserve that data?
2. Is there an easier, more efficient way to re-design my site without so much chaos? I will be re-designing by adding a new theme and adjusting the page layouts through Elementor page builder.
Thank you for your help,

Hi there, you haven’t mentioned whether your new site is using the open source WordPress software or it will be hosted here on WordPressdotcom.
If you are going to be hosting it here on WordPressdotcom under our Business or eCommerce plan, you can keep your site visibility set to Private until you are ready to launch.
If you are going to be using the open source WordPress software and hosting it elsewhere, like Bluehost, Godaddy and the like, you’ll want to head over to the forums for that software at https://wordpress.org/support/ where they have more experience with that software.
WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and WordPress are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
